I know, its been a long time. I had to put The Binary Obsession on the back burner for a little while. I've been thinking about the band a lot lately. I know what's coming next, and it will come quietly. I doubt many will notice, but its really more something for my friends and family. Though, no one will be excluded from this gift. I'll let everyone know what it is once I've chosen a release date.
Some of you may have noticed that I'm no longer available on iTunes or Amazon. I wasn't getting any buys, so I took it down. I am planning on putting it back in circulation something in the near future. But again, more details on that to come.
Wow, I really wish I had more to say, more news to give. Sorry. I'm still trying to get the dust off of things around here. Talk to you soon.
-alexHappy Independence Day to all. Hope you enjoyed your night. I've got an announcement for all my friends and fans. The Binary Obsession is set to play at Good Hurt Nightclub on July 30th, 2008 at 11:00pm.

Its a 21 and up show. Sorry to anyone under age who was hoping to come. I hope everyone can make it and wouldn't mind seeing a few new faces in the audience. Really, I could use all the help and support I can get. So please tell your friends, get them to go with you, and help spread the word.
-alexHere's 3 videos from the Roxy Show. Enjoy.

We'll get video to you soon.
-alexWe've got another show coming up that I'm hoping you'll come to see. We're playing at The Roxy Theatre on the sunset strip on March 14, 2008. Here's the flyer:

Tickets are available by Paypal directly through this website's [feel] section. [tickets are no longer available] All tickets bought online will be available at will call. Hope to see everyone there. We're working hard for your enjoyment:
Yeah, it has been forever since I've updated this site. Sorry. Anyways, there has been a lot of things I've left you in the dark about. First, before the El Rey show, the lineup for the band changed a bit. The people on stage were Bob Amjerv, Palo Henderson, Steve Stokes, and Taylor Visca. Here's a video of me, Palo, and Taylor during one of our rehearsals.
Second, the El Rey show went quite well. I think we can do better, but I'm still proud of what we accomplished. The next show will be better. There are quite a few pictures from the show available of Facebook and Myspace. Here are a few of my favorites:

-alexSorry there hasn't been any updates lately. I came down with a bad flu and have been bedridden since. Not to worry though, I am beginning to feel quite a bit better and have an exciting announcement.
Steven Stokes will be joining us on stage at The El Rey on Friday, January 25th, 2008. As some of you know, Steve is a talented guitarist and performer and has played for me in New Orleans. He still live down there, which makes this appearance even more special. I have received confirmation that he has booked his flights, and we have already begun the process of updating him on the material.
With Steve on board, this will prove to be one hell of a performance. So don't forget to buy your tickets today.

12.12.07

I've said goodbye to New Orleans and I'm headed home. I am currently a few thousand feet over Arizona or Nevada or something, I'm not really sure. It seems like this has been a slightly bumpy flight. It's dark now, so there nothing to look at really. But the clouds seemed particularly beautiful earlier.
It was a different trip than the one I imagined. I apologize for the lack of a performance. It doesn't seem to matter anyways, not many people seemed to know I made an album, let alone aware I was in town. Also the timing of this trip wasn't great, most people had finals. I feel I'm trying to give myself a reason why I didn't play when there really isn't one. I should have played and I didn't and I'm pretty pissed off about that. However, I've made a promise to myself to come out again in a few months to play a show, with plenty of notice ahead of time.
Despite the musical struggle, I really did enjoy my trip to New Orleans. I got to see a lot of friends I haven't seen in a long time and catch up with them. I really got to enjoy the city I am so very fond of and feel just a little bit like a college student again. It was also nice to get to slow down and relax for a while.
Back in LA however, things will be picking up quickly. I implore you to buy a ticket to The El Rey show and maybe get your friends to buy one too. I'm actually a little curious as to whether or not anyone has bought a ticket through [feel] yet. Let me know if you did. I'm also hoping to give people a better multimedia experience on this site. I'm going to try to post pictures and video frequently. So check back regularly to see what's new.
-alexI thought it might be fun to let you comment on these blog entries. It'd be interesting to see just how many people are reading... what people think... get some feedback... I don't know. I'm just experimenting with what I think you might appreciate and with what intrigues me. So feel free to comment. Feedback is welcome.
-alexWhile things aren't really going as smoothly as I hoped down here in New Orleans, there is the glimmer of great things to come back home. I've finally compiled a band back in Los Angeles and we have booked a first show. On January 25th, 2008 we will be playing at The El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. I'm both excited and very nervous at the same time. But I'm looking forward to practicing rehearsing, and getting to bring you something I feel is truly amazing.
The band is made up of five members. I've had to call upon a few friends to help me out while I'm looking for more professional talent. I thank them for their time, which in some cases is something they don't have a lot of. As of now the Line up is Palo Henderson on Guitars, Jeff Meepos on Bass, Taylor Visca on Drums, Edgar Walther doing Keys/Guitars and, of course, myself, Alex Schetter. I will be front manning the whole operation.
On a related note, you may have noticed I just added a new section to the website. The [feel] section is the official event calendar of The Binary Obsession. I plan to be extend it's functionality so it may be down from time to time. But you can stay up to date on our latest shows and buy tickets online though that portion of the site from now on. Tickets for The El Rey show are available there, so go to the [feel] section and buy your tickets to the show.
-alexI've been in New Orleans for a few days now and I'm having some trouble finding a decent gig. Not many places are willing to book so last minute. Another problem is that the colleges are starting finals this week, so not many people have the luxury of going to a show.
None the less, I am still trying to put something together down here. Hopefully, it will be something people can actually make it to. I apologize to anyone who is particularly disappointed with how this has been going, I am too. But, I promised you something. So, I'm doing all I can to give you something and am determined to deliver. I'll keep everyone updated.
-alexOn top of coming down to New Orleans. Something else big is happening. As of today, Anonymous, the first album from The Binary Obsession, is available for sale on iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster, and Amazon MP3. So now there's no excuse. Get over to iTunes (or any of the others, if you happen to be partial to them), buy the album and enjoy.
-alexGood news, friends! I just finalized my tickets and I'm on my way. It's been a long time, but I'm finally coming back to New Orleans. I have been wanting to come down again for some time now. I miss my friends, the city, the music and so much more. No, I couldn't resist any longer. On November 29th, 2007 I will be back in the city I was once proud to call home and will be staying for 12 days.
As of now, I have no shows booked, but the planning is in the works and I promise you, a performance will happen. Backing me up down south will be the amazing duo of Steve Stokes and "Happy" Jack McClain. I have performed in New Orleans once before with these two and am very proud of the work they do. For those of you who weren't at that performance or were too intoxicated to remember it, here's a short video clip:
I am currently trying to find someone to play bass for any southern performances, but that shouldn't be to much of a problem. I'm excited to be coming down.
-alexI got my teeth filled about a week ago and I'm still in quite a bit of pain. I'm pretty sure thats not a good thing. But other than that things seem to be coming together just fine.
Slowly but surely I'm finding a new band in Los Angeles. I have almost everyone, but still need a guitarist. I'll be introducing them all through this site shortly. If you really need to know who they are now their names are available on myspace.
Speaking of internet social networking, facebook started a few new things this week. They're calling them facebook pages and social ads. I'll spare you the details, but the new facebook pages feature is really nice. I've taken advantage of this new feature by creating a new Musician Page for The Binary Obsession. I think it's worth taking a look at if you're a facebook member. I've put the entire album up for all facebook members to listen to. I wish it could be everyone, but you have to be logged in to use the music player. But please give it a look and add The Binary Obsession to your music.
I have a few other things in the works. However, I don't want to say anything until I've finalized a few things first. Needless to say, I'm still very excited about the next few weeks.
Hope to see you soon.
-alexToday is a proud day for me. As I'm sure you've already realized, today marks the launch of the official site of The Binary Obsession. I've already put a lot of work into what you see and plan to keep expanding it as time goes on. But truly the biggest development is the fruition of my labors. Over 6 years of blood, sweat, and tears have finally realized a comprehensive and complete body of work. I am proud to announce the release of the 1st chapter. That's right. An album.
Anonymous is the first installment in this era of my career that I give the same name. It is a 7 track EP with a playtime of 27 minutes 30 seconds. Each and every song has been a labor of love. I made it for you, a made it for me, I made it for those I love.
At the moment, I am selling it exclusively through this website for $5.99 using paypal. A select few songs can be heard on the bands myspace page located at www.myspace.com/thebinaryobsession. If you like what you hear, or even if you don't, please visit the [hear] store and buy a copy and support future releases from The Binary Obsession.
